Great wall in Warring States discovered in Beijing
www.chinanews.cn 2005-12-08 18:06:44
Chinanews, Dec. 8 C An old man involved in relic study for many years
recently showed his evidence to the allegation that some part of the
Great Wall, which was built some 2,000 years ago, still existed in
Beijing.
Before making the conclusion, seventy-year-old Yu Bingyin had traveled to
almost all parts of the Great Wall in Beijing's Yanqing County.
In the countys Bangshuiyu village, there were some remains on a ridge
which were left over after rain swept away a line of mounds.
This part of the Great Wall claimed to be built around 475 BC to 221 BC
when Beijing was still a state called Yan.
The Wall was about two meters in height and 80 to 100 centimeters in
width. Yu said the wall could not possibly be built in the Ming Dynasty
(1368-1644) since most parts built at that time were large. It could not
belong to the Qin Dynasty(221 BC- 206 BC) either, because during this
time, most parts of the walls were built in the mid and western part of
Beijing to link separate parts.
