Chinanews, March. 6 C Some archeological experts in Ningxia recently
said that the Great Wall was seriously damaged in Ningxia province.
In 2005, the experts carried a research to the Great Wall section in
Ningxia. According to experts, the Great wall extends 1,507 kilometers in
the province with all together 706 towers. The research showed that apart
from natural forces such as wind, rain, floods and sand wind that bring
damage to the Great Wall, the wall was seriously destroyed by human
activities.
In some places, the Great Wall was torn down as barriers that get in the
way of the local economic construction. In recent years, more and more
construction projects were kicked off along the Great Wall. Some projects
went on at the expense of the Great Wall.
In 2004, a ten-meter section of the Great Wall broke down in the west
side of Hongshanbao area, when a road was constructed between the Inner
Mongolia's Eduokeqian prefecture to Yinchuan. In Sanguankou area, local
herdsmen took away bricks of the Great Wall and in some parts, the Great
Wall were cleared away for building a mountain pass. In Hedong area, some
parts of the Great Wall were torn down for building roads while other
parts changed their original outlook. Some local people even used the
Great Wall material for making bricks.
Ningxia province is historically regarded as an important strategic pass
in west China. The Great Wall was built and rebuilt here during the
Warring States period, Qin, Han, Sui and Ming Dynasties. The Great Wall
extends hundreds of miles in Ningxia province in the north, central and
southern part of the province.
