Chinese Academy of Social Science held in Beijing the large-scale special
architectural function & scientific significance seminar about relic of
Taosi ancient town in Xiangfen County on Oct. 24. Astronomers and
historians generally agreed that the big special architectural function
discovered in Taosi town used to relate to astronomical observation and
was the astronomical observation site in Taosi Civilization period
(2500BC to 2000BC). It was learnt this was first time for China to
discover the relic, and the most amazing discovery was the large-scale
rammed earth construction in the sacrifice section with a total area of
1,400 square meters. To date, it is the earliest solid astronomical
observation site ever found in China.
